A Legacy Forged in Resilience
In 1989, Richard DeLisi was sentenced to 98 years for a non-violent cannabis offense — becoming one of the longest-serving cannabis prisoners in U.S. history.
After serving 32 years, he was released in 2020 with the support of the Last Prisoner Project, his family, and the FreeDeLisi movement.
But Richard’s story began long before incarceration.
In the 1970s, he owned an NHRA championship drag racing team and was known on tracks nationwide as “The #1 Waco Kid.” He was also a licensed pilot who, at one point, operated a fleet of aircraft — a reflection of his entrepreneurial drive and fearless ambition.
During his incarceration, Richard lost his son Steven, his wife Colette, his mother Margaret, and his father Theodore. The personal cost of prohibition was immeasurable.
A Partnership Reclaimed
After his release, Richard and his son Rick forged a partnership neither could have imagined during the decades apart. Through building DeLisioso together, father and son transformed lost time into shared purpose — creating not just a brand, but a legacy rebuilt side by side.

Today, the DeLisi family leads DeLisioso, a premium cannabis brand partnered with Trulieve and available statewide across Florida, with expansion underway nationally and internationally.
